I have updated the graphics drivers as far as I can. It is a Dell laptop, (Intel i5 CPU 240GHz, with an Intel HD graphics chipset, 4GB RAM). The software is telling me that it needs OpenGL 3.3 and the laptop is only running 2.1. My son is wanting to run Scrap Mechanic on Steam, on Windows 7, 64 bit.
I don't know if the issue for HD4000 is similar, but my experience with Linux is, unless theres a really good reason not to, update as often as possible. I think I’m trying to do something impossible. I was assuming my card could support 3.3 because the Wikipedia page says the whole HD 4xxx line does. Instead it was limited to OpenGL 3.1 for years, but that has now been fixed. I just installed Grim Fandango Remastered, and it turns out it won't work because my open source driver (Mesa 10.1.3, according to glxinfo) only supports up to OpenGL 3.0 because of reasons. Older versions of the Intel Mesa driver (version < 10.5 I think) did not enable OpenGL 3.3 on Sandy Bridge HD for instance, even though the hardware supports it. Please note most machines with a dedicated GPU from AMD or NVIDIA support Open GL 33 and above as long as this GPU was released within the last 4-5 years. Instead of faking the version string a better approach might be be to update your Mesa libraries.! If your GPU does support OpenGL 33 and above updating your graphics driver should fix this issue. Don't know if this is at all relevant but there it is
So the way I understand it, with Mesa, if you don't specifically request a core context you will get a version 3.0 compatibility context.
Mesa supports GL contexts of version 3.2 or greater only as core contexts not as standard compatibility contexts. Not being any OpenGL expert by a long shot, I found something that might be relevant. So I think I will not upgrade to version 14. Besides windows 10 is much faster then under parallels, the only problem is that you have to restart your Mac every time you want to use windows 10. Check the system settings for your video card to see if it supports hardware acceleration (using the Control Panel on Microsoft Windows or System Preferences on. I was a bit quick with this answer, updating didn't really do the trick :-/ But if you are on Sandy Bridge gfx with an old Mesa driver like I was it is still a good idea to upgrade, given the issues described below. Some models only support OpenGL ES 3.0 and earlier Supports multiple GPU texture resolutions - 960x720, 480p: Samsung: Galaxy J7 (2017) SM-J730 models Some models only support OpenGL ES 3.0 and earlier Certain models only support OpenGL ES 3.1 and earlier: Samsung: Galaxy J7 Pro: SM-J730 models Some models only support OpenGL ES 3. I know it works with windows 10, because I work now with bootcamp on my Mac, and that works with the software I needed openGL 3.3 for.
